John Curtin is a Reiki Master living Spain. He founded the Spanish Reiki Federation which currently has 5,000 members worldwide. Author of two books “Reiki, real stories” and “The Professional Reiki Therapist Manual” he introduced Reiki into hospitals in Spain with 800 volunteers and also trained doctors in Nicaragua for 12 years to implement complementary therapies (including Reiki) as part of the Nicaraguan Public Health Service. He has also published the official Reiki manuals for federation members with sales of 16,000 copies in 2024. Nowadays he lives off grid in central Spain looking after the federation, two dogs and 3 chickens (not counting the 2-metre-long ladder snake called Fred under his house because he looks after himself).

Title: “Ego, Reiki and the spirituality paradox”

The talk examines the pitfalls of teaching Reiki in terms of how the Ego hijacks what you do as a Reiki teacher for its own ends. We also cover the “Spirituality Paradox” the fact that you are trying to transmit something to people that often need healing and are therefore not in a place to understand the spiritual implications of a true healing path. The talk will try to offer practical ways to overcome these two stumbling blocks.
